CURRENT:

New Performance Projects > Flash is a butoh and hip-hop duet with legendary choreographer-dancer Rennie Harris, and Soil is a dance theater trio with performers from Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Performance photography > After completing his El Espiritu del Barrio Chino project, Michael is now developing a photo essay with dancer Waewdao Sirisook set in the Lanna region of northern Thailand. (See early pics on Facebook!)

Educational and Scholarly work > Michael has been appointed Program Director of the MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts Program at Goddard College's West Coast campus and recently completed his PhD, "An Empty Room: Butoh Performance and the Social Body in Crisis," theorizing on butoh, democracy, and sustainability.

Crisis movement training > Michael is continuing his development of a butoh-based training method for crisis resolution and working with different student populations and communities. Workshops so far in Indonesia, Thailand, and throughout the USA.
